Piz Badile

Cassin Route

The Cassin Route, is a long, sustained rock climbing objective with the hardest pitches being 6a (5.10a-b) in difficulty. While most of the pitches are easier, it is still a significant undertaking, requiring a substantial amount of both mental and physical stamina.

The Sasc Furä hut, is our base for this objective. Looking up from the hut to the left of the North Ridge is what appears to be a towering wall of shear granite. After traversing ledges leading off the North Ridge we begin to see corners and weaknesses that connect the wall and dictate our climbing route. Pitch after pitch, we piece together what seems like an improbable line keeping most of the climbing moderate however slowly notching up the exposure throughout the day!

A narrow canyon with steep, rugged rock walls and patches of snow on the ground, with a safety rope running along the center.

Difficulty

The Cassin Route is a long and difficult rock climb. With over 25 pitches to a maximum difficulty of 6a (5.10a-b) Add to this a very long descent, either by rappelling these 25 plus pitches or descending to the south side into Italy.

Climbers need to be comfortable following 6a (5.10) and be efficient on 5a (5.8) terrain. Endurance, and both mental and physical stamina are all requirements for success of this route.
